Chuck's Chat Welcome to August 2025!
Congratulations to Mike and Peggy Blaes who were recently selected as a Kansas Farm Bureau Farm Family of the Year. Each year, Kansas Farm Bureau recognizes outstanding Farm Bureau families who have distinguished themselves through participation in Farm Bureau programs and leadership, family activities, community and civic service, as well as displaying good farm operation management. They will be honored at our county annual meeting as well as at the Kansas Farm Bureau Annual Meeting in Manhattan.
And speaking of annual meetings, the annual Montgomery County Farm Bureau meeting will be held on October 7 at ICC West in Independence. The silent auction proceeds have yet to be designated, so if you know of a member or member family needing some assistance let us know. Contact me or Kathy O’Brien at (620) 331-0826 if you’d like to donate at item or provide financial support.
Wednesday, September 3 will be the annual Listening Post, an opportunity for Farm Bureau members to hear and discuss the proposed policy changes to be deliberated at this year’s KFB meeting in December. It will be held at the Greenbush Service Center near Girard, with a meal beginning at 6:00pm. Please text an RSVP by August 16 to (785)-364-6017 to help with meal preparations.
Did you know August is celebrated as National Catfish Month? The earliest recorded recognition of this month was in 2021 when a group of U.S. Senators came together to pass a resolution to designate August 2021 as ”National Catfish Month.” According toa study by Mississippi State’s Extension Center, Mississippi is the largest catfish-producing state, accounting for 54% of total food fish production. Mississippi also leads the U.S. production with 29,900 acres in July 2024, with the Mississippi Delta accounting for most of this land.
Stay cool my friends.
Until next month,
Chuck Voelker
